Celebrity or not, disputes can arise during a divorce

On Behalf of Law Offices of Matthew S. Schultz, P.C. | Dec 21, 2013 | High-Asset Divorce |

Frequent readers of our blog know just how problematic divorces can get, especially when hurt feelings and strong emotions turn even the simplest of separations into a contentious battle. Many couples here in Arizona know this sentiment all too well and also know that every couple, whether they are going through a high net worth divorce or an uncontested divorce, can encounter these same problems.

Take for example Clint Eastwood’s divorce that was started in October when his wife of 17 years filed papers citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for separating. Eastwood’s feelings were likely spurned when his wife requested full physical custody of the couple’s 17-year-old daughter and also spousal support as well. Now, the actor and director has filed legal papers of his own, asking for joint physical custody and a request to deny his wife spousal support payments.

But while this might seem like typical celebrity drama to some, many of our readers recognize this as a situation that anyone here in Arizona could go through themselves.  Although Eastwood’s case may have to deal with more complex property division, the child custody dispute with his wife and his refusal to pay spousal support are common problems that can arise in any divorce.  As we’re sure Eastwood and many of our readers are already aware, it’s situations like this that often require the help of a skilled attorney.  They can not only help spouses come to an amicable resolution but can make sure this is done in accordance with state laws as well.
